Occasional breakouts and chronic acne plague many people of all ages. From mild to severe, cases of acne can cause painful and unsightly outbreaks on the face, back, chest and even arms. Left untreated acne can lead to scarring. Unfortunately, many people choose potentially harmful products and topical medications over natural remedies when it comes to acne treatment. But getting rid of acne naturally is possible, as is minimizing acne scars.
When it comes to skin care, and acne treatment in particular there are many options. In today’s chemically-derived, synthetically-manufactured world, it can be tough to solve your skin issues without dousing yourself in unpronounceable products. In most cases it’s a good idea to take a step back from harsh chemicals, and treat your skin with organic and natural ingredients. Especially when your skin is suffering from a bout of acne. After all, acne-prone skin is already irritated and inflamed, there is no need to over-stimulate it. And, no, going the natural route doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice results.
What causes acne?
The main causes of acne include clogged pores, bacteria, excess oil production and dead skin cells. Research also indicates hormones, diet, stress or medication can worsen acne. Acne typically appears on your face, neck, chest, back and shoulders. These areas of skin have the most oil (sebaceous) glands. Acne occurs when hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Hair follicles are connected to oil glands. These glands secrete an oily substance (sebum) to lubricate your hair and skin. Sebum normally travels along the hair shafts and through the openings of the hair follicles onto the surface of your skin.
When your body produces an excess amount of sebum and dead skin cells, the two can build up in the hair follicles. They form a soft plug, creating an environment where bacteria can thrive. If the clogged pore becomes infected with bacteria, inflammation results. The plugged pore may cause the follicle wall to bulge and produce a whitehead. Or the plug may be open to the surface and may darken, causing a blackhead. A blackhead may look like dirt stuck in pores. But actually the pore is congested with bacteria and oil, which turns brown when it’s exposed to the air.
Pimples are raised red spots with a white center that develop when blocked hair follicles become inflamed or infected. Blockages and inflammation that develop deep inside hair follicles produce lumps beneath the surface of your skin.
Why Use Natural Acne Treatment?
Conventional acne treatments don’t always work for everyone. They can also cause side effects ranging from skin irritation to more serious ailments. Another concern, since antibiotics are used in so many conventional acne treatments, is antibiotic resistance. A study in the U.K. reported that more than one out of every two acne patients treated with antibiotics carried resistant strains of two different bacteria often found on the skin.

Using Oil in Acne Treatment?
When it comes to acne, oil has gotten a pretty bad name. While it’s true that excess sebum, the oil your skin produces naturally, can clog pores and cause breakouts, that’s totally different than the oils you apply to your skin. In fact, facial oils for acne prone skin can actually help your skin produce less pore clogging sebum.
Using our face oil when you experience outbreaks of acne is an effective way to care for your skin condition. Our Acne Away Face Oil has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Counter-intuitive as it sounds, oils can be your savior when you suffer from breakouts or acne.
